O'Banion Files for City Council, Place 7

Belton resident Stephanie O'Banion has filed for Place 7 on the 2022 Belton City Council ballot. Three councilmember terms expire in May:

  • Daniel Bucher (Place 5)
  • Wayne Carpenter (Place 6)
  • Guy O'Banion (Place 7).
On Feb. 1, Mayor Wayne Carpenter filed for Place 6, which he currently occupies. O'Banion serves on the Belton Planning and Zoning Commission, and is the spouse of Councilmember Guy O'Banion, who currently occupies Place 7 and does not plan to run for re-election.

The filing period is open until 5 p.m., Feb. 18. Potential candidates must file during the filing period to be eligible for office.

A candidate packet, which includes filing information, is available online for residents interested in serving on the Belton City Council. The 2022 General Election is scheduled for Saturday, May 7, with Places 5, 6, and 7 up for election.


Councilmembers are elected to serve three-year terms. Each May, councilmembers appoint from among their body a mayor and mayor pro tem to serve for one year.

The Council meets twice a month in regularly scheduled evening meetings. Each councilmember receives $1 annually for his or her service.
