Mayor Wayne Carpenter has filed for Place 6 on the 2022 Belton City Council ballot. Three councilmember terms expire in May:

  • Daniel Bucher (Place 5)
  • Wayne Carpenter (Place 6)
  • Guy O'Banion (Place 7).
The filing period is open until 5 p.m., Feb. 18. Potential candidates must file during the filing period to be eligible to run for office.

A candidate packet, which includes filing information, is available online for residents interested in serving on the Belton City Council. The 2022 General Election is scheduled for Saturday, May 7, with Places 5, 6, and 7 up for election.


Councilmembers are elected to serve three-year terms. Each May, councilmembers appoint from among their body a mayor and mayor pro tem to serve for one year.

The Council meets twice a month in regularly scheduled evening meetings. Each councilmember receives $1 annually for his or her service.
