Two File for Office on First Day of Filing Period

BELTON, Texas – Belton residents Wayne Carpenter and Daniel Bucher filed for office today on the first day of the filing period for the Belton City Council and mayor election. Carpenter, the current Mayor Pro Tem, filed for mayor, and Bucher, a Parks Board member, filed for a councilmember position.

 They meet in regularly scheduled meetings twice a month, and each receives a $1 annual payment for his or her service. candidate packet, which includes filing information, is available online for residents interested in running for a position on the Belton City Council. Councilmembers are elected to two-year terms. 

 The terms for the following councilmembers are set to expire in May:

  •  Mayor Marion Grayson
  • Mayor Pro Tem Wayne Carpenter
  • Councilmember Guy O'Banion

City Council and mayor positions are determined through an at-large election process. Residents interested in serving as mayor or councilmember must register during the filing period and meet certain state and local qualifications. The filing period is open until 5 p.m. on Feb. 14.

Mayor Grayson has announced she will not seek re-election following six years as mayor and another 10 as a councilmember.

Election Day is May 2.
