Filing Period Begins Today for Place on the 2020 General Election Ballot

Residents seeking a place on the 2020 ballot as a councilmember or mayor candidate must file an application at City Hall between Jan. 15, 2020, and Feb. 14, 2020. 

Councilmembers are elected to two-year terms. They meet in regularly scheduled meetings twice a month, and each receives a $1 annual payment for his or her service. Terms for the following councilmembers are set to expire in May:

• Mayor Marion Grayson
• Councilmember Wayne Carpenter
• Councilmember Guy O'Banion

City Council and mayor positions are determined through an at-large election process. Residents interested in serving as mayor or councilmember must register during the filing period and meet certain state and local qualifications.

Candidate Packets are available online. Election Day is May 2.
