Application Period Open for Law Enforcement Explorer Academy

The Belton Police Department announces the 2017 recruiting drive for its Law Enforcement Exploring Post. Law Enforcement Exploring is a program for young men and women ages 14-20, who have completed 8th grade.

Exploring allows youth to experience what a career in law enforcement would be like. Participants receive training in numerous areas including patrol tactics, forensics, communications, and criminal investigations. These skills are put in action at formal competitions against other Explorer posts. Explorers are also an active part of the police department assisting officers during parades and other events throughout the year.

Interested youth living in the Belton area or attending Belton schools may pick up an application at the front desk of the Belton Police Department or from any School Resource Officer. Applications will be accepted from March 2, 2017 through May 5, 2017. Applicants must attend at least two meetings, pass a background check, and interview before being accepted to the program. Once accepted, they will attend an Explorer Academy on June 5 – 16, 2017.
