City Council Seeks Public Input on Budget & Strategic Plan

The Belton City City Council will seek public input on several budget related items during its meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Public hearings on the agenda include the annual update to Belton's Strategic Plan and the proposed 2020 tax rate and budget. The proposed tax rate is 65.98 cents -- the same rate of the previous seven years.

The Council is also set to consider a resolution that would call for a future public hearing on the possible issuance of General Obligation Refunding Bonds. The bonds would be used to refund 2013 bonds, which helped fund the Sparta/Commerce Roundabout, Public Safety Building expansion, purshase of a fire engine, enhancements at several parks and expansion of Wheat Road.

Refunding the 2013 bonds to bonds with a lower interest rate would save the City an estimated $240,000.
