Sparta and Commerce Intersection set to Close for up to Four Months

road-work-151707_640People who use Sparta Road to travel between Main Street and Loop 121 will need to use a detour when construction on a roundabout begins at the Sparta and Commerce Drive intersection within the next 10 days. The intersection is expected to be closed for up to four months.

People will still be able to access all of the businesses in the area, but may have to take an alternate route. The first recommended alternate route is Lake Road between Loop 121 and Main. Another temporary detour will be in place at the Commerce-Sparta intersection. It will allow people traveling east on Sparta to access Main Street via Commerce and Industrial Boulevard.

The construction of the roundabout was planned with the goal of minimizing impact upon school bus schedules. The project also includes the widening of Sparta (adding a middle turning lane) from just east of Commerce to Loop 121, adding 10-foot sidewalk on the south side of the road, and improving the right turn lanes at Sparta and Loop 121.

Once the roundabout it finished, the rest of the project will be completed under traffic. The overall project is expected to take a year to complete. We ask people to drive cautiously in the construction zone.
