Woman Dies Following Fire at a Triplex in Belton

The woman transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital following a structure fire in a nearby unit of a triplex in the 700 block of W. Avenue H on Wednesday, March 23, later died at the hospital.

As the fire was being extinguished in the building, Belton firefighters rescued Irma Cantu, 65, from her bedroom. She was alert and conscious before being transported to the hospital in an ambulance. To determine cause of death, the body was sent to Dallas for an autopsy.

The Belton Fire Department, ATF and Temple Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire. A preliminary investigation determined it was an electrical fire.
