Incumbent Craig Pearson Tuesday filed for Place 3 on the 2024 Belton City Council ballot. Pearson currently serves as the Place 3 councilmember.

Two councilmember terms expire in May:


  • Craig Pearson (Place 3)
  • David K. Leigh (Place 4).
The filing period is open until 5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 16. Potential candidates must file during the filing period to be eligible for office.

A candidate packet, which includes filing information, is available online for residents interested in serving on the Belton City Council. The 2024 General Election is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, with Places 3 and 4 up for election.


Councilmembers are elected to serve three-year terms. Each May, councilmembers appoint from among their body a mayor and mayor pro tem to serve for one year. Current Mayor David K. Leigh filed for Place 4 on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

The Council meets twice a month in regularly scheduled evening meetings. Each councilmember receives $1 annually for his or her service.
