Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Grant
Safe Routes to School Grant (SRTS)

Proposed Project Description: construct a six-foot wide sidewalk on the north side of W. Avenue H and west side of S. Pearl Street from S. Saunders to W Ave. D. The grant program, administered through TxDOT, provides funding for sidewalks built within two miles of K-8 schools, especially where no sidewalks exist currently. This is the case in the W. Avenue H and S. Pearl neighborhood. The proposed sidewalk will provide safe passage for young students that attend Southwest Elementary or Belton Middle School. The proposed sidewalk will also provide access to local businesses, the Water Standpipe Park, the Jaycee Park, and other existing sidewalk systems. (Proposed Project Map)

Belton's 2019 Safe Route To Schools (SRTS) Application was submitted on August 15, 2019. TxDOT anticipates concluding their review in the fall of 2019. Final project award is expected in December 2019.  A copy of the final application can be viewed here.
