Belton City Council Election Expected to be Canceled

City CouncilWith only four people filing for four open positions on the Belton City Council, it is likely that a projected election in May will be canceled. The deadline to file was Feb. 17. 

An item requesting the cancellation of the election will be presented to the Belton City Council at its next meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 28. 

Three of the four people to file are are incumbents. Current Councilmember Jerri Gauntt did not file for re-election. Her term will expire in May.

The names of those who filed are:
  • Mayor Pro Tem David K. Leigh
  • Councilmember Craig Pearson
  • Councilmember Dan Kirkley
  • John Holmes
