A Belton police officer was among two injured in a traffic accident on I-35 this morning.

At about 8:14 a.m. a person driving a Toyota Camry on southbound I-35 fell asleep at the wheel and clipped another vehicle, a blue Nissan SUV. The driver of the Nissan then hit a Belton police patrol unit, which was monitoring traffic near an I-35 on ramp in the 200-block of I-35.

The driver of the Nissan and the police officer were transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center. The officer was alert and able to walk.
