I-35 Tractor-Trailer Fire Impacts Morning Commute
August 31, 2018
Belton Police and Fire Departments responded to a dramatic tractor-trailer fire at 3:42 a.m. today on northbound I-35 near the overpass at Central Avenue.

The driver of the semi reported seeing fire in his rearview mirror and was able to pull over and detach the trailer just north of Central Avenue before the fire became too intense.

The tractor-trailer was hauling a load of aerosol cans, which caught fire and exploded into the air. Nobody was hurt in the incident, and no other vehicles were involved.

Both directions of I-35 were temporarily closed through the early morning rush hour to allow for cleanup at the scene. The southbound lanes reopened just after 8 a.m.
