TIRZ Board Approves Budget Amendment; Could Lead to Redevelopment of Former H-E-B Building

The former H-E-B store at the corner of Main and 6th may be redeveloped into a multi-tenant retail property with ACE Hardware and Planet Fitness as anchors. Although no signed commitments have been made, the City has received a retail concept proposal from John Lewis Company of Austin.

On Monday, May 18, the Belton Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone Board approved $50,000 in incentives related to the redevelopment of the property.

On Tuesday, May 19, the Belton Planning and Zoning Commission approved an ordinance authorizing a zoning change at the location, 525 N. Main, a requirement that is a necessary administrative step.

The next step in the process is for the Belton City Council to consider the budget amendment related to the incentives and the zoning request at its next meeting at the Harris Community Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26.
