Belton Invites Residents to Register for CodeRED Emergency Notification System

download.jpg

The City of Belton in cooperation with Bell County and the Central Texas Council of Governments has contracted with Emergency Communications Network to license its CodeRED high-speed notification solution. The CodeRED system provides Belton officials the ability to quickly deliver messages to targeted areas or the entire City of Belton. The system could be used in a variety of situations, including to notify residents of boil water notices or flooding.

One of the reasons the CodeRED system was selected is it gives individuals and businesses the ability to add their own phone numbers directly into the system's database. Residents who previously registered their phone number with the previous emergency notification provider for the City of Belton MUST RE-REGISTER with CodeRED in order to be included. Only numbers in the system will be called.

To register visit www.beltontexas.gov/codered. This will take you to the "CodeRED Community Notification Enrollment" page. Those without Internet access may supply their information over the phone by calling Sara Trevino, 254-933-5881, with the Belton Fire Department, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or after business hours call the Belton Police Department, 254-933-5840.

Required information includes first and last name, street address (physical address, no P.O. boxes), city, state, zip code, and primary phone number (additional phone numbers can also be entered), and email contact. All businesses should register, as well as all individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, who have changed their phone number or address within the past year, and those who use a cellular phone or VoIP phone as their primary number.

Street addresses are required for registration because CodeRED allows calls to be delivered to specific geographic regions within the City, which reduces unnecessary calls in situations such as a boil water notice. The system works for cell phones, too, but an associated street address provides enhanced accuracy.

Registering for CodeRED is easy and secure. Data collected will only be used for emergency notification purposes.
