A .33-mile extension of the Nolan Creek Hike & Bike Trail is now open to the public. The extension brings the trail from Burton's Crossing, near the Harris Community Center, to Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., near the campus of the University of Mary Hardin Baylor.
An opening ceremony was held on Friday, Nov. 14. The new section includes a bridge over Nolan Creek, part of which is a 70-foot historic bridge that once spanned Polecat Creek in Falls County.
A third phase to extend the trail along MLK Ave. to Loop 121 is set to begin construction in 2015.
