The opening ceremony for the Nolan Creek Hike & Bike Trail Extension is set for 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 14. The ceremony will take place along the Trail near Lion's Softball Field. Parking is available at the Harris Community Center, 401 N. Alexander.
The extension is a .3 mile expansion from Burton's Crossing, near the Harris Community Center, to Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. and the campus of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The Nolan Creek Hike & Bike Trail, first dedicated in 2006, was originally 1.1 miles. It began near the Park and Ride in Confederate Park and ended in Harris Community Park in the vicinity of Burton's Crossing.
A third phase to extend the trail along MLK Ave. to Loop 121 is set to begin construction in 2015.
