Belton's Lena Armstrong Public Library has been selected as one of four libraries in Texas for a 2014 J. Frank Dobie Library Trust Award. Each spring, these monetary awards are given by the Texas Library Association to library applicants throughout the state. The number and amount of awards are determined by the net income produced by the Trust. In 2013 four libraries each received an award of $8,000. The Trust specifies that the money must be spent exclusively on books and may include e-books.
Belton will find out the amount of the award on Wednesday, April 9, at a Texas Library Association author's luncheon in San Antonio.
To be eligible for the award, libraries must be open for service a minimum of 20 hours a week and serve a population of 20,000 or less.
